BDR: How to scan a Digital ID
Content
The BDR App (iPads) can scan supported and unsupported digital IDs.
Definitions
-
Supported: When the QR code is scanned, the information shown on the iPad is received from the appropriate digital ID infrastructure. E.g., QLD DL servers.
-
Unsupported (screen capture): Scantek does not have access to the DDL infrastructure to receive the Patron's information, so we scan the information from the phone screen.
Screen Capturing Digital IDs
The process for capturing unsupported digital IDs varies slightly from that of supported digital
IDs. These IDs include:
- New South Wales; and
- South Australia
Instructions to screen capture
-
-
From the main screen, tap the ‘Digital ID’ button.
-
Align the entire phone screen, displaying the digital ID, in the viewfinder.
-
The BDR app will automatically capture the ID.
-
The customer’s details will be displayed on the scan result screen.
- Check and manually correct the captured details if required.
-
To manually authenticate a Digital ID, the Licensee can request the customer to refresh the digital ID in front of them.
The NSW Digital ID contains holograms that move with the phone.

Errors and FAQs
Error: The QR code is either "too far" or "too close" when attempting to scan
If the venue is using the iPad in a stand, the iPad camera may occasionally struggle to focus on the phone screen depending on the screen's size. To resolve this, recommend the Licensee try the following:
-
-
Close the capture screen.
-
Position the patron's phone so the digital ID is clearly displayed.
-
Tap the 'Digital ID' button to initiate the scan, and allow the camera to focus.
-
If this does not resolve the issue, the Patron will need to present a physical ID card.
