BDR iPads: App not updating to latest version

For when the BDR App has not uploaded to the latest App version.

The iOS developer(s) will enforce an "App Update" once the BDR App is approved and can be released to the iPads.

This will force all online or available iPads to force the App to update. 

 

If the App doesn't automatically update, it could be due to: 

  • the App being open on the device
  • the device being offline
  • a backlog of commands that are blocking the update.

Device has been Offline

Check whether the device has been online since the latest version was released. It may be a matter of the device checking in to receive the new BDR App version.

To check the last time the device checked in:

  1. Go to JAMF
  2. Locate the device
  3. Click on Inventory > General
  4. Check the "Last Inventory Update" date and time.

 

Device is Online but no in-use

If the iPad is online but may have been in use, run the following commands to re-trigger the App update.

  1. Go to JAMF
  2. Locate the device
  3. Click on Management > Management Commands
  4. Check under 'Pending Commands'
  5. Select the 'Blank Push' command
  6. Select the 'Inventory Update' command

 

Device is Online but Busy (manually update the App)

If JAMF displays 'Device was busy' message, liaise with the venue to update the iPad.

To manually update the App, perform the following steps with the venue staff:

  1. Unlock the iPad
  2. Ensure it has a network connection
  3. Ensure the BDR App is not in use.
  4. The BDR App will auto update - it can take a few minutes. 
  5. Once the App is updated, a blue dot will appear next to it.
  6. Open the BDR App and confirm the App version. E.g., 1.8.8

TIPS

  • At step 3, close the App session entirely so that it's not running in the background.
  • At step 4, send a 'Blank Push' to the iPad if it takes too long.

 

Pending Commands are blocking the update

Check whether there are pending commands.

To check the last time the device checked in:

  1. Go to JAMF
  2. Locate the device
  3. Select Management > Management Commands
  4. Check under 'Pending Commands'
  5. Cancel any non-critical commands. E.g., 'Inventory update'
